Strengthening organizations
The Rainforest Foundation has helped strengthen dozens of local indigenous organizations that are actively defending the rights and lands of over 200,000 indigenous peoples. Land rights can be only be won by strong leaders and effective local indigenous organizations. Once land rights are obtained, they will only be protected through constant vigilance by leaders that can effectively advocate on behalf of their people. We have helped dozens of indigenous groups reinforce traditional governance systems and start their own non-profit organizations, and helped them acquire the skills they need to defend their community’s gains. We have also provided technical and professional development to many indigenous leaders who have used their skills to defend their lands, rights, and forests.
