Rights-based forest protection works
The Rainforest Foundation has proven that indigenous people are part of the conservation solution and that rights-based forest protection works. Securing land and resource rights to the ancestral lands of indigenous peoples is not only the right thing to do, but it’s now proven to be one of the most effective strategies for protecting forests. In many countries where we work, deforestation rates are lower on titled indigenous lands than they are on any other type of protected areas, including national parks.
