Where We Work
Why we work where we do
It might seem simple – the Rainforest Foundation works in areas where there are rainforests overlapping with the traditional lands of indigenous peoples. But in order to use our limited resources most effectively, we follow a strict rationale for choosing where to focus our efforts each year.
We choose countries where:
- Land rights are a top priority for indigenous peoples
- There is a distinct and immediate window of opportunity for change
- There is potential to set a precedent within the country or internationally
- We have existing partnerships with indigenous organizations
- There is high forest cover
- We can make a tangible difference with a modest amount of funding
We are currently focusing our work in four countries: Brazil, Guyana, Panama, and Peru.
